I enjoyed my stay in New Zealand and I gained valuable experiences.
The most impressive thing in New Zealand was visiting the National Marae. This architecture is very important for Maori people to protect own traditional culture and to pass it on to the next generation. I felt that it was the most sacred place where I had ever visited.

Next, I was surprised by the difference in school between Japan and New Zealand. The biggest difference is snack time. In New Zealand, there is snack time after 2nd period, and we can eat fruits, gummies, cookies, and so on. I hope to introduce this system in Japanese schools.
Although many junior schools in Japan have school lunch, students in New Zealand bring lunch box every day. They eat outside of the classroom.And students use their own computer at various classes for example, I answered questions on a PC in mathematics class and I researched about Syrian civil war on the web in social studies. I thought that there are many differences between Japanese schools and New Zealand.
I had a great time with host family. I became good friends with my buddy soon because we contacted each other in E-mail almost every day. On the second day in New Zealand, I went to the movie theater with my buddy and her friends. We watched movie “Barbie”. It was fun for me to watch it with them. I was good to meet someone who was not my buddy before going to school. I was happy because there were students I knew when I went to school.
We played mini golf with buddy’s Dad and his partner. Even though my buddy doesn’t live with her Dad, they had good relationship. I was surprised at their relationship because it was very complicated for me to understand. I learned that there are various types of human relations.
I visited my buddy’s friend’s house several times. We played games such as UNO and “What am I” and watched movie at home. We also went to the bowling alley. I played bowling for the first time, I really enjoyed it.
There were a lot of great experiences and opportunities to learn during my visiting to New Zealand. I want to learn many things about overseas. And I want to work abroad in the future.
ニュージーランドでの経験
私はニュージーランドを訪問して、貴重な体験ができました。
一番印象に残っているのは、ナショナルマラエの訪問です。マオリにとってとても大切な建物で荘厳な場所でした。屋根の上の彫刻が頭、屋根が広げた腕、建物自体が部族の祖先の体を表しているそうです。民族の歴史を大切にし、それを次の世代に引き継いでいくという思いが感じられ、神聖な気持ちになりました。
次に印象に残っているのは、学校の違いです。一番はSnack timeがあることです。二時間目の後に果物やグミ、クッキーなどを食べていました。日本の学校にもぜひ取り入れてほしいと思いました。また、給食はなく、Mumが作ってくれたランチボックスを持っていき、みんなで外に出て食べました。自分の教室があるけれど、ほとんどの教科が選択制で、毎回教室を移動して、教科ごとに違うメンバーで授業をしていました。Englishの授業中に読書の時間があり、朗読している音声をスマホで聞いている人がいるのには驚きました。基本的に授業中は使ってはいけませんが、スマホを学校に持って行くのはOKでした。ニュージーランドと日本では学校のルールにたくさん違いがあるとわかりました。
ホストファミリーともいろいろお出かけしました。事前にバディと毎日のようにメールのやり取りをしていたので、初めて会ったけれど、すぐに打ち解けることができました。ニュージーランドの二日目には、バディとその友達3人とBarbieの映画を見に行きました。バディと仲良くなれ、さらに、学校に行く前にバディ以外の知り合いができたのは心強かったです。バディはDadと一緒に住んでいませんが、週末にDadとそのパートナーと子どもと一緒にミニゴルフで遊びました。私にとっては複雑な関係なのに、普通に仲良くしていることに驚きました。世の中にはいろいろなつながり方があるとわかりました。バディの友達の家にも何度か遊びに行って仲良くなりました。UNOやWhat am Iというカードゲームで遊んだり、ボーリングに行ったりしました。
今回のニュージーランド訪問は、楽しい思い出と学びのチャンスが多くありました。これからも海外に興味を持ち、多くのことを学んでいきたいと思います。
