Through the homestay experience, I was able to get to know New Zealand's home life, school life, and townscape. During the first week of my life in New Zealand, it was difficult for me to understand English, but gradually I got used to it and became able to hear it. Among the souvenirs I gave to my host family, they were delighted with Kibi dumplings and Matcha KitKat.
In the morning, noon, and evening, there was bread but no rice. While living in New Zealand, I didn't think I would miss Japanese food very much, but when I returned to Japan, I wanted to eat Japanese food as soon as possible. Family reunions were enjoyed by going to bars, participating in quiz competitions, and watching funny videos at home. On my days off, I went out a little and went to Lake Tekapo and Akarowa, and enjoyed walking and shopping in the nearby Christchurch city center.
The streets of New Zealand had a lot of graffiti and many buildings had been damaged by the earthquake, but the card boat cathedral, the library, Lake Tekapo, and the sea of Akarowa were all very beautiful.
At school in New Zealand, classmates changed for each class, and there were subjects that students could choose their own classes, just like a university. From this, I thought that New Zealand schools respect the individual, but Japan respects the group. During the class, I was surprised to see some students listening to music with earphones, and others playing games on their computers. I was also surprised that there was time to eat sweets after the first hour. The school building does not have corridors, but has buildings for each subject. To take the next class, go through the outside to the next classroom.
What I learned through this homestay was that it would be good to express yourself well and convey your feelings to the other person. Also, although I became able to listen to English, I couldn't make sentences right away on the speaker side, and I couldn't come up with words, so I wanted to acquire more English skills. I am glad that I went to this homestay experience and learned a lot. thank you very much.
ホームステイを体験してみて
私はホームステイ体験をしてみてニュージーランドの家庭生活や学校生活、街並みを知ることができました。ニュージーランドの生活は、初めの１週間は英語を聞き取ることが難しかったけど、だんだんと耳が慣れ、聞き取れるようになりました。ホストファミリーにあげたお土産で喜ばれたのは、吉備団子や、抹茶のキットカットが喜ばれました。
食は、朝、昼、晩、パンがでて１度もお米は出ませんでした。ニュージーランド生活では、日本食があまり恋しいとは思っていなかったけど、日本に帰ると早く日本食が食べたいと思いました。家族の団欒は、バーに行ってクイズ大会に参加したり、家で面白い動画を見たりして楽しみました。休日は少し遠出をして、テカポ湖や、アカロワに行ったり、近くのクライストチャーチ市の中心部を散策、ショッピングをしたりして楽しみました。
ニュージーランドの街並みは、落書きが多く、地震の影響で壊れている建物もたくさんありましたが、カードボートカセドラル大聖堂や図書館、テカポ湖、アカロワの海などがとても美しくきれいでした。
ニュージーランドの学校は、大学のように授業ごとにクラスメイトが変わり、授業も自分で選択できる教科がありました。このことから、ニュージーランドの学校は個人を尊重しているが、日本は、集団を尊重していると思いました。授業の様子は、イヤフォンなどをし、音楽を聴いている生徒もいれば、パソコンでゲームをしている生徒もいて驚きました。また１時間目が終わると、お菓子を食べる時間があることにも驚きました。校舎は、廊下はなく教科ごとの建物があり次の授業を受けるには、外を通って次の教室に向かいます。
このホームステイを通して学んだことは、表情をしっかり出し、相手に自分の気持ちを伝えるといいと感じました。また、英語を聞き取れるようにはなったが、話す側ではすぐに文が作れず、単語が出なかったのでもっと英語力を身につけていきたいと思いました。私は、このホームステイ体験に行き、たくさんのことが学べたので行って良かったと思います。ありがとうございました。
