This summer, I went to New Zealand as part of the 2023 Christchurch Visiting Youth Life Experience Group.
I went to homestay. It was a series of things that I could not experience in Japan for a long time.
In this sentence, there are two things that left an impression on me, so I would like to introduce them. The first is the warmth of the local people. I'm not very good at English, and to be honest, I was filled with anxiety. But without waiting, the time to meet my buddy came, and I repeated my self-introduction in my head like a template I had prepared in my head.
But Buddy and Buddy's family spoke slowly so that I could understand. Also, they often asked questions that I could answer with "yes" or "no."
The next day, I went to the school my buddy attended. The local school is different from Japan, and members change for each subject.
In that class, as usual, I was able to talk to various people in a friendly manner. If I were in the opposite position, I would have a hard time trying to talk to a foreigner I just met for the first time. My host family often took me out and about, and even there they would talk to people they had just met for the first time.
The second is the idea of individualism, which is common in Europe. I think that there were many opportunities to choose something locally. Above all, I was surprised that I could choose the classes I took at school by myself. In Japan, the teachers make the decisions completely, so it was very refreshing to see the completely opposite way of thinking about the group in Japan.
I'm really looking forward to my buddy coming to Japan in the fall, but I wanted to improve my English skills more during the homestay. Finally, all of these new encounters are because I went to a homestay.
So, first of all, I would like to express my sincere gratitude to the people who cooperated so that I could participate in this training, my family who supported me, and my host family who treated me like a son. . I'm really thankful to you.
令和5年度姉妹都市訪問青少年生活体験団 感想文
僕は今年の夏、『令和五年度クライストチャーチ市訪問青少年生活体験団』としてニュージーランドへ
ホームステイに行きました。現地では日本にいてはずっと体験できない様な事の連続でした。
この文では僕が特に印象に残ったことが2つあるのでそれを紹介しようと思います。まず1つめは現地の方々の温かさです。僕は英語がかなり苦手で正直不安で胸がいっぱいでした。でも待たずとバディとの対面の時間は来て僕は頭の中で用意していたテンプレートのような自己紹介を頭の中で繰り返していました。
でもバディとバディの家族は僕が分かるようゆっくり話してくれました。また、よく「はい」か「いいえ」で答えられるように聞いてくれました。
翌日からはバディの通う学校に行きました。現地の学校は日本とちがい、教科ごとでメンバーが替わります。
その授業で毎回の様に色んなひとに気さくに話しかけてもらえました。もし僕が逆の立場にいると、初対面の外国人に話しかけようとはなかなかならなりません。ホストファミリーによく外に連れてでてもらった事がありましたがそこでもホストファミリーは初対面の人にすっと話しかけており、そのフレンドリーさみたいな物がニュージーランドの国民性なのだと思った。
次に２つめは欧州ではよく見られる個人主義の考えです。現地では何かと選択の機会が多かったと思います。中でも学校で受ける授業が自分で選べるという事に何より驚きました。日本では先生が完全に決めてしまうので日本の集団を意識とは真逆の考え方がとても新鮮でした。
秋にはバディが日本に来ますとても楽しみですがホームステイの中でやはり英語力という物をもっと高めたいと思いました。最後にこのような新しい出会いは全てホームステイに行ったからこその物です
なのでまずは、この研修に参加できるように協力して下さった方々そして身近に応援をしてくれた僕の家族そして現地でぼくを息子のようによくしてくれたホストファミリーに心から感謝しています。本当にありがとうございました。
