「American discoveries」
I did a homestay in America for 17 days. Here are some of the things I found surprising about America that I wrote down.
The first is that highway are free. This is what Adam, the first host family, and I asked in the car to the zoo. Japan requires fee on highway. I was able to find the difference between countries. I also knew that when two people ride in a car, there are two people in front of me. This is what I was told when I got in the car with my next host father. Everyone in a America has to wear a seat belt. It turned out that the rules of cars were strict in America.
The second was that the trees in the garden and on the rode were broken the day after thunder at night. That’s what I talked about with my first host family. My host mother showed me a broken tree in the morning garden. While driving, I was surprised to see many broken trees. The broken tree was lying on the road.
Third, bacon is crispy. The bacon my host family cooked for me for breakfast was very crispy. Also, the bacon that came out when I had brunch with my next host family was crispy. It was interesting to find the difference in bacon. The food I ate in America is very interesting. My host family took me to a Mexican restaurant. I ate tacos. The host family has recommended tacos of beef tongue. The tacos on the beef tongue were very delicious. However, I poured too much avocado sauce and it was very hard. I also ate Vietnamese pho. I couldn’t get used to it at first because it was my first time eating it. But as I was eating, it became more and more delicious. Host family, thank you for making pho. I was able to eat food in America that I couldn’t eat in japan. The food was all delicious that the two families cooked it.
Forth, many houses have basketball goals. It wasn’t in my host family’s house. But I was surprised to find many basketball goals while driving.
The fifth was what I thought when I saw Major League Baseball. I went to see the Royals game with my host family. I heard a lot of booing. There be not common in Japan. There were many projects to entertain the audience. I had the time to kiss when I was on the screen. I thought it was very American. Japan is not of them, so it was fun.
There were many surprises and discoveries in America. That’s Because my host family took me to many places. He made plans for the day for me. I’m very grateful to my host family. Finding new things is very interesting. New discoveries grow people. I’m happy to have such an experience.
人生の財産
僕は今年の夏休み、姉妹都市訪問青少年生活体験団員としてアメリカでホームステイをしてきた。刺激的な毎日で、たくさんの経験をすることができた。そんな17日間で感じたことをここに書こうと思う。
岡山空港を出発してから三回のフライトを重ねアメリカについたとき、僕は晴れて自由の身となった。この日から待ち受けていたのは宿題でも部活でもなく、あこがれていたアメリカの地。約１年「アメリカに行きたい」と言い続けていた言霊が導いてくれた瞬間だった。
アメリカについて三日間同じ団員と時間を過ごした。僕に待ち受けていた最初の試練は「アメリカの食」だった。ピザやハンバーガーはBIGでHEABYだった。これがアメリカかと洗礼を受けた気がした。市役所に訪問して屋上から見させてもらったアメリカカンザスシティの景色は忘れないだろう。体にアメリカの気持ちいい風が吹き付けてアメリカ人になった気がした。
アメリカ４日目。ついにホストファミリーとご対面。待ちに待ったホームステイがはじまった。１家族目は観光地や地元のパーティーなど様々な所に連れて行ってくれた。屋外でジャズを聞いた際暗くなるにつれて夫婦でダンスをする方を見た。そんなアメリカのいい雰囲気に酔いしれていた。また朝食にパンケーキパーティーに参加したとき、向かいに座った小さい男の子を連れた家族が気さくに話かけてくれた。おしゃべりしながら食べたパンケーキは格別で、今はそんな自分をかっこよく思う。
２家族目ではバーベキューや、ショッピングをした。面白いホストファザーで笑いが絶えなかった。家で映画を見たり、深夜にタコス屋に連れていかれ、おなか一杯なのにみんなでタコスを食べたりと楽しかった思い出が尽きない。ホストファザーと作ったハンバーガーは最高においしかった。
今年の夏最高の思い出を作れたこと、一生忘れないだろう。異文化に触れることは自分を成長させてくれる。そう思って参加した。でも実際そんな実感は湧いていない。写真を見返して余韻に浸るばかり。でも写真に残っているようにアメリカで一人でホストファミリーの家で生活したことは事実だ。それこそが一番の成長だと僕は思う。アメリカやほかの国にいけるチャンスがあって、少しでも行きたいと思ったなら行くべきだと思う。現地での楽しみは僕が保証する。それくらいのいい旅を経験してほしいし、僕もまた経験したいと思う。
