Kurashiki City Art Museum was originally built as The Kurashiki City Hall designed by famous architect TANGE Kenzo in 1960. When new city hall was built, the building was designed to remodel into a municipal art museum by donation to Kurashiki-city from home-grown Japanese-style artist, IKEDA Yoson. The museum opened at once with Kurashiki-City Library and Kurashiki Museum of Natural History as cultural zone in 1983.
